About 14th Street Painters
∼14th Street Painters began as an artists' atelier w/ rental work space facilities, events, & exhibitions in 1987. Programs were added to connect w/ the outside world to educate and update the artists such as ³Open Studios², figure modeling/ drawing, lectures, etc. All exhibition cost & physical construction were and are still handled by the artists whenever possible. While we have grown in and out of several locations we are still looking to expand our horizons while existing simply for artists. In our evolution we have grown to include basic tools common to artists needs, participation in several events connecting the artists w/ the public and exhibition space on our online gallery.
We have had two galleries in the past which have since closed . We are currently looking for more space to house grass roots facilities for artists in a broader sense which would accommodate multimedia and exhibition space.
We would ideally like to own property. Several of our affiliates or locations were in the Meat Packing District ( Art Machine 92-2000), Earl Gallery, Art Tank (96-2000), and Wiesner / Waters Gallery (1990)) but as we grew the property value also increased forcing us to move. We became part of our problem.
It is our belief that art is an expression by the artist framed by environment and conditions of his / her time and when given basic tools art can be produced that adds to civilization. ♥
